Borroloola Millie Playground

Borroloola Primary School

About this project

Borroloola Primary School had an existing playground removed due to its age and unsafe characteristics. We were approached to supply and install some new equipment that met the needs of children ranging from 5 to 13 years of age. After 3 seperate submissions a playground was chosen that met the schools requirements, including price, and we made the journey 6 weeks later to Borroloola and completed the install.

  • Budget: $100,000+
  • Location: Borroloola, Northern Territory
  • Workforce: 6

Borroloola PS also needed rubber softfall installed beneath an existing playground for the pre-schoolers. There was no sand or existing rubber softfall beneath this playground so while we were out there we completed an extra 60 square metre rubber pad.

The entire project ran smoothly even though we had to negotiate some small challenges. For example when we arrived we discovered that the site for the new playground was on a significant slope - we used extra fill and a concrete footing to reduce the slope. And when excavating our footings we uncovered rock so we hired a rock breaker nearby to complete our excavations.

Unfortunately the supplier had packed the wrong slide and there was a delay on delivery. The correct piece of equipment arrived in Borroloola 1 week after we had departed so as soon as it arrived we flew our foreman back to Borroloola to complete the install and allow the very anticipated children to use the playground.
